Thanks to superstition-fueled demand for rhino in China for thousands of years, the Western black rhino was declared extinct in 2007.
Now, Javan rhino numbers hover at only 60 – 70 in Indonesia, and only 5 – 7 individual Javan rhinos (the Vietnamese subspecies) remain in Vietnam.
